CaseNotes offers flexible pricing to fit every law student's budget and needs. This guide explains each plan and helps you choose.

Free Trial (7 Days)

What's included:

  • Full access to all features
  • 10 IRAC submissions with AI feedback
  • Access to 5,000+ case database
  • Community Q&A participation
  • No credit card required

Best for:
Students wanting to try the platform before committing, or completing a single assignment with AI support.

Limitations:
After 7 days or 10 submissions (whichever comes first), you'll need to upgrade to continue.

Student Plan — R149/month

What's included:

Everything in Student, plus:

Payment & Billing

Accepted payment methods:

  • Credit card (Visa, Mastercard)
  • Debit card
  • EFT/Bank transfer (annual plans only)

Billing cycle:

  • Monthly plans: charged on the same day each month
  • Annual plans: charged once per year (with 2-month discount)

Currency:
All prices in South African Rands (ZAR)

Invoices:
Automatically emailed after each payment. Download from Account > Billing History.


Free Trial Details

Duration: 7 days from account creation
Submission limit: 10 IRAC analyses
Features: Full access (not a limited demo)
Auto-renewal: No — you must actively choose a plan to continue

What happens after the trial:

  • You keep your account and submission history
  • You can still browse the case database (read-only)
  • To submit new IRAC analyses, upgrade to a paid plan

Can I get another free trial?
No — one free trial per person. However, we occasionally offer extended trials during exam periods. Join our mailing list for announcements.


Upgrading or Downgrading

How to upgrade:

  1. Go to Account > Subscription
  2. Click Upgrade Plan
  3. Select your new plan
  4. Payment is prorated (you only pay the difference)

Example:
If you're 15 days into a R149/month Student plan and upgrade to R249/month Pro:

  • Credit for unused Student time: ~R75
  • Pro cost for remaining 15 days: ~R125
  • You pay: R50 difference

How to downgrade:

  1. Go to Account > Subscription
  2. Click Change Plan
  3. Select a lower-tier plan
  4. Downgrade takes effect at your next billing date (you keep Pro features until then)

Can I switch between monthly and annual?
Yes. Switching to annual gives you a discount; switching to monthly ends at your current annual period.


Cancellation & Refunds

How to cancel:

  1. Go to Account > Subscription
  2. Click Cancel Subscription
  3. Confirm cancellation
  4. You keep access until the end of your current billing period

Refund policy:

Within 7 days of first payment:
Full refund if you're not satisfied (no questions asked)

After 7 days:
No refunds, but you can cancel anytime to stop future charges

Annual plans:
Prorated refunds if you cancel within 30 days; no refunds after 30 days

What happens when you cancel:

  • Access continues until the end of your paid period
  • No further charges
  • Your account remains (read-only access to past submissions)
  • You can reactivate anytime by choosing a new plan

Student Verification

Why we verify:
Student pricing is subsidized for enrolled law students. Verification prevents abuse.

How to verify:

Upload one of these documents:

  • Student card (with current year)
  • Registration/enrollment letter
  • University email confirmation

Processing time: 24-48 hours

What if verification fails:
You'll receive an email explaining why and asking for additional proof. Contact support if you need help.

Do I need to verify every year:
Yes — student status expires annually. We'll email a reminder when reverification is due.


Discounts & Special Offers

Annual billing discount:
Save 2 months (pay for 10, get 12)

Referral program:
Refer a friend who subscribes, you both get 1 free month

Group discounts (5+ students):
Email support@casenotes.co.za for custom group pricing

Financial aid:
Limited bursaries available for students with financial need. Apply here.

University partnerships:
If your university partners with us, you may get subsidized or free access. Check with your law faculty.


Managing Your Account

Update payment method:
Account > Billing > Update Card

View billing history:
Account > Billing > Invoices (download PDFs)

Change plan:
Account > Subscription > Change Plan

Update email:
Account > Settings > Email Address

Delete account:
Account > Settings > Delete Account (this is permanent and cannot be undone)


Common Questions

Can I pause my subscription during holidays?
Not currently. Cancel before the break, then reactivate when you're ready to study again. Your data is saved.

Do you offer monthly-only (no annual option)?
Yes — all plans are available monthly. Annual is optional for those who want the discount.

What happens if my payment fails?
You'll receive an email asking you to update payment info. Access continues for 7 days grace period, then account is suspended until payment is resolved.

Can I switch from Student to Student Pro mid-month?
Yes — you'll be charged a prorated amount for the upgrade.

Is there a family/group plan for study groups?
Not yet, but if you have 5+ students, email us for group pricing.
